Confessions of an MS Ableist, thoughts about change in yourself
I’m inspired by the words of my friend, Jennifer Powell. I don’t think you’re supposed to start a piece with “I”, but hey, why not? Who follows rules?
Recently I’ve begun recording audio Flash Briefings for Jennifer Powell, a patient with Multiple Sclerosis. I find her words not only inspirational, but enabling. She’s my definition of a warrior. Positive all the way! Each column I read, and I think to myself, “Wow! What a take on meeting life head on she has”.
You may be asking why I’m bringing in a patient with MS. I do so because she’s disabled. Those of us with LEMS are disabled. Life with a disability is difficult. It’s beyond challenging at times. We need all the inspiration and ideas we can get to maximize life for all it’s worth. So I give you Jennifer’s take on life with a disability. I hope you’ll read her article.
