I was diagnosed with LEMS in July of 2008. I was living in Illinois at the time and was sent to the University of Wisconsin/Madison to figure out what was going on. The doctor I was sent to had studied under Dr Lambert at the Mayo Clinic and diagnosed the LEMS very quickly. I started Mestinon right away. After the cancer screenings (which were all negative) I was put on immune suppression drugs. I had bad reactions to those drugs and then was started on the IVIG. 4 grams per kg. (20 grams for me). I want to report that I started with an infusion every 4 weeks….A few years ago went to 5 weeks and now go every six weeks. I still take Mestinon. Hopefully this will encourage someone else going through this.
