Assistive Devices for Walking: Canes, Trekking Poles, and Walkers.
This is the ongoing saga of using a trekking pole sometimes for walking. My niece gave me a pair for my birthday. As previously noted, trekking poles look ‘better’ than the alternative, which is an outright cane, at least to me.
I made my first short ‘trek’ this morning with one of my poles. Hum. I actually like it. I did get a sense of better stability and control. Along the route, I adjusted the height slightly down and did one more adjustment down when I got home. Will I use it again? Hum. Probably.
In doing a little research I learned there’s a wealth of information about Assistive Devices. Here’s a comprehensive article on canes and walkers, how they assist us, and how to fit them.
The article is from American Family Physician, and you can read it HERE.What assistive devices do you use for walking or getting around?
