Drinking alcohol with LEMS – What’s your experience?
For many of us living with Lambert-Eaton Myasthenic Syndrome (LEMS), everyday choices—like having a drink—can come with extra questions.
Some people with LEMS report increased weakness or fatigue after drinking, while others don’t notice much change.Since everyone’s experience is different, this is a space to share and learn from each other.
How does alcohol affect your LEMS symptoms (if at all)? Have you noticed changes in muscle strength, coordination, or energy levels after drinking?
For me, I definitely feel that it makes me a little more sluggish, but I think it depends more on how my day is going in general. If I drink at all, I tend to have a glass of wine with dinner. I’ve noticed that if I have more to drink, it takes me longer to recover, and the next day is usually a mandatory rest day.
Have your doctors given you any specific guidance on alcohol use?
Alcohol can affect the nervous system, and it may interact with some medications used to treat LEMS. Always check with your healthcare provider if you’re unsure what’s safe for you.
💬 Let’s talk openly and without judgment. Whether you’ve chosen to drink, limit, or avoid alcohol altogether, your experience could help someone else navigate this decision!
