Got a Caregiver?
At 72 I still pride myself that I live independently, even as my LEMS becomes a bit more troublesome. I was thinking the other day, “It’s nice I don’t have to have a caregiver.” Well, that’s not exactly true. Even though I don’t strictly have a caregiver, I do lean on a couple of people to help me when medical problems or procedures come up. I know my sister will always be there for me in case of emergency and usually provides aid and assistance around scheduled procedures. I’m lucky to have a couple of other friends available to call on in a pinch. My friend, Cynthia, recently was there for me when I needed transport to and from a procedure. It’s a good feeling to know there are family and friends you can depend on. LEMS is tough enough.
I do realize there are others whose LEMS is much more of a disability than mine. If you use a caregiver, I’d enjoy hearing who helps you and how.
