Sharing your chronic illness diagnosis with friends and family
Good morning!
I know we have a lot of new members lately and a few with a pretty recent LEMS diagnosis.
I wanted to share an article from one of my favorite chronic illness support group sites, The Mighty.
If you aren’t familiar with The Mighty you should definitely check their site out, they have articles tailored to chronic illness and even a couple for LEMS patients!
The article I am sharing today is “8 Things I Haven’t Told My Family and Friends About Being Chronically Sick”
The article is a list of thoughts Sara Naveed thought about and wished she could tell her own family and friends about her chronic illness.
One of the thoughts that resonated with me was “If you see us “enjoying ” ourselves, it doesn’t mean we aren’t sick.”
It’s a common misconception that we are “better” when others see us enjoying life or having fun. Sometimes we decide the fun is worth the price we pay after.
