With the “LEMS walk”, watch that walking gait!
Having a knee problem now (non-LEMS related), and seeing how it is altering my gait, reminds me how bad that can really be. An altered walking gait can lead to further, unwanted strain and injury. Just after my LEMS diagnosis, and before I was on a good treatment plan, I was having difficulty fully lifting my left leg during walks because of LEMS. It was bad when I noticed I was having difficulty raising my left foot up to step over curbs. I had a pretty severely altered gait as a result. This in turn was causing strain and pain to my right hip and side. It was extremely uncomfortable, painful, and required physical therapy to recover. So, if you have the “LEMS walk”, be careful, and watch for those gait problems which can lead to further unwanted injury.
