Exercising with LEMS – finding the right balance
For many of us living with LEMS, maintaining physical activity can feel like a tightrope walk. Excessive exertion can lead to worsened fatigue and muscle weakness, but staying completely sedentary can also cause stiffness, deconditioning, and further fatigue.
Finding the right kind of movement—and the right amount—is key, but it’s different for everyone. This thread is a space to share your personal experiences, advice, and challenges related to exercising with LEMS.
Are there certain times of day when you feel stronger and more capable of being active?
Personally, I have most of my energy in the midmorning, after my muscles have warmed up.
What forms of exercise have worked best for you? I’ve always been told that low-impact exercises like swimming, yoga, recumbent bike, or rowing are really beneficial for LEMS.
Have you experienced any symptom flare-ups or setbacks from overdoing it?
Remember: What works for one person might not work for another, and that’s okay. The goal is not perfection, it’s progress in a way that respects your body.
