It is so easy for me to ignore the need to exercise, especially with LEMS. Because our muscles will lose mass quicker than average people when not used, I try to stay motivated to exercise. Some days it’s just walking my dogs. Sometimes, on rough days, that’s just walking around my back yard with them. On other days, it means a much longer walk that all of us enjoy.

My neurologist has told me to continue to exercise and my rheumatologist has told me not to overdo because if I injure myself, it will take me longer to heal than most due to my multiple autoimmune diseases. It’s a tough balance but I don’t look for perfection, just progress. I’m back at Planet Fitness now to use their treadmill and weight machines a few times a week.

Do you exercise? What do you find works for you?
