Since this month is “Disability Pride” month, I wanted to share some info about the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) with you all.

Many of you are or may be aware of the ADA, but it’s always nice to have a refresher or a solid resource to look back onto when you need it.

In short, the ADA was approved in 199o and  “makes sure that people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. The ADA gives civil rights protections to individuals with disabilities similar to those provided to individuals on the basis of race, color, sex, national origin, age, and religion. It guarantees equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities in public accommodations, employment, transportation, state and local government services, and telecommunications (What is the Americans with Disabilities Act?)

Last week, @lorildunham’s column was about the ADA and the difference it made in allowing her daughter, Grace, the opportunity to find employment. If interested, you can check out the article “Educating Ourselves About ADA Helped us Make An Informed Decision,” here.

Has the ADA assisted you at all? If you didn’t know about it, has this changed anything for you?

Hope to hear from you guys!
