Making Mental Adjustments to Shift Your Perspective on Pain and Suffering
Living with LEMS can be not only physically painful but also mentally challenging too. I’ve been lucky that my nerve damage and neuropathy have not caused me much pain. I read from others that they do. Now the mental challenges, that’s another thing altogether. But, I won’t burden you with my issues.
Problems with pain and suffering aren’t exclusive to LEMS patients. I read columns from my friend, Jenn Powell, over in the Multiple Sclerosis group. MS patients face many of the same issues and burdens we do. I find her perspective on them refreshing and insightful. Here’s a sample, “Daily chronic pain affects my mood, sleep, relationships, and overall quality of life. And some days are insufferable. But I am not suffering. I work very hard at managing my multidimensional relationship with pain.”If you have a few moments, read her full article from someone who has her head on straight and offers a compelling perspective.
