Living with LEMS can be not only physically painful but also mentally challenging too. I’ve been lucky that my nerve damage and neuropathy have not caused me much pain. I read from others that they do. Now the mental challenges, that’s another thing altogether. But, I won’t burden you with my issues.
Problems with pain and suffering aren’t exclusive to LEMS patients. I read columns from my friend, Jenn Powell, over in the Multiple Sclerosis group. MS patients face many of the same issues and burdens we do. I find her perspective on them refreshing and insightful. Here’s a sample, “Daily chronic pain affects my mood, sleep, relationships, and overall quality of life. And some days are insufferable. But I am not suffering. I work very hard at managing my multidimensional relationship with pain.”

If you have a few moments, read her full article from someone who has her head on straight and offers a compelling perspective.

To Ease My Suffering, I Had to Shift My Perspective, Not My Pain Levels
