Rare Mental Health Struggles Aren’t So Rare
“The experience I have had is that once you start talking about mental health struggles, you realize that actually, you’re part of quite a big club.”
– Prince HarryPrince Harry of the English Royal family has been all over the media with the release of his new book, SPARE. I’ve not purchased it and probably won’t, but that was a perceptive quote from him.
LEMS patients are rare, but mental health struggles for LEMS patients and the rare disease community are not. You may not want to talk about your struggles with friends or even other family members, but talking with a mental health professional is something to consider. If you know you need help, reach out and get it. Everyone deserves a happy life.
Here’s another quote from someone who’s pretty wise.
If you feel you could use some help, talk to your primary care doctor or another health professional about your struggles. Ask them to connect you with the right mental health services.
If it’s a potentially life-threatening situation, Call 911.
If there are thoughts of suicide or emotional distress, contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Call 988.
