Mental Health Check-in!
Posted by Ashley on February 20, 2025 at 12:38 pmMorning all!
I wanted to check in on all of you and ask how your mental health is going!
The winter months are especially hard for me, especially with it getting dark early these days. I also find it harder to get out and stay active when it’s so chilly! This year has been very uncharacteristic for us in Virginia Beach, as we’ve had snow on three separate occasions. Yesterday, we received a foot of snow!!
Do you struggle in the winter as well? If so, what helps you cope?
Does anyone experience a flare or a decrease in symptoms during the winter months?

I do struggle during the winter months. I don’t go out as much and the cold air affects my asthma symptoms as well as muscle spasms. I try to occupy myself doing puzzles of all sorts, meditating and reading. Today is warm so I went out and enjoyed the sunshine.

Hey @Wanda Grischkowsky It’s nice to know I’m not alone, however I am sorry you struggle in the winter as well. My husband and I have started doing a puzzle here and there before my son was born in December! I am loving this warmer weather and hope it sticks around for a while! I’m ready for summer!

The weather has been so unpredictable lately, but I enjoy the nice weather when we get it. Not looking forward to the really hot months though because it causes more weakness and I can’t tolerate heat.

I’m also not looking forward to the extra hot days but I really enjoy being outside when its in the 60’s to low 80’s!

I try to take short walks or chat with a friend when things get heavy-it really helps clear my head.

Hi everyone,
I’m not looking forward to the summer months. The heat is exhausting and can be difficult to breathe if outside for to long. My skin is sensitive when the sun glares down on it. It actually feels like I’m on fire.
On the flip side, cold weather is the opposite extreme to the warm/hot weather. So disappointing and frustrating.
Many days I feel trapped and lonely because I remain in doors most of the time.
Working numeric puzzles and solving spelling challenges on my cell phone, helps to keep my brain active.

Hey @Jamie L Sanderson
I agree the heat is also exhausting, and my skin also feels like I’m on fire when I overheat. I also turn extremely red and blotchy which I hate even more.
Like you, I also don’t enjoy the winter. I live for the days when the weather is between 60-80 which are few and far between sadly.
I’m so sorry you struggle with the weather as well. It can be very isolating and makes Lambert-Eaton even harder to cope with. You are not alone!

Agree, very cold, windy, early darkness is depressing. Up until this winter, I was in southern Florida, when it became impossible for me to enjoy the sunshine and warmth , including high levels of humidity. Fortunately, I found a neurologist in southern Fl who diagnosed me with LEMS. (this explained why I no longer enjoyed the heat of southern FL) Tried one more year and then we made the decision to sell Florida home and remain in Masachusetts. I miss the joy of nice weather in the winter, my wife and I tried a week long cruise the winter, with close friends. This did help, providing a break from the long winter. We like the cruise, and if you do not, then stay close to your friends. It helped me.

@Tom sharpe
High humidity is the absolute worst! I’m sorry you ended up moving back to MA permanently.
I also love cruising and find that the weather in the Caribbean is mild enough to enjoy in the late fall/winter. I believe we should all have a yearly getaway!
